Macheta is the place to go if you are hoping to get on some hard routes. Most of the routes are 5.11 or higher and the area is loaded with 12’s and 13’s. The climbing is massively overhung but littered with jugs that will keep climbers of all styles happy. Only 2 hours from Bogota this is a must visit area as it has enough routes for a couples of days of goofing around.

List of routes (still limited but there are MANY there).

Getting there:

From Portal Norte hop on a bus to Macheta. Once you arrive in Macheta ask for a bus or taxi to Los Rocas para escalar. Make sure to buy food in town as there is little at the crag.

Where to stay:

There is a hostel at the base of the rocks where you can stay for 30,000 COP. The owners are nice and the beds are clean. During my time there they even gifted me a bowl of traditional soup.
